Research in counselling is increasingly indicating that a broad toolkit of therapeutic skills drawn from a range of therapy approaches, can produce better results for therapy clients than using one specific therapy approach alone. Direct experience with clients has consistently shown, that an integrative approach to counselling, can provide the opportunity for better therapy success.
Being able to speak with someone in a confidential, safe space is invaluable in clarifying your situation and resourcing yourself to make any internal or external changes in your life. Being ‘met’ where you are at, is an important step in acknowledging your circumstances, so you can choose to make any adjustments you wish to live more fully and authentically.
Therapies have specific strengths when applied in the counselling sessions, therefore I will use different integrative counselling tools.

Here is an explanation of some of the therapies
– Professor Gordon Emmerson
MiCBT (Mindfulness Integrated CBT) is composed of four stages. We begin by developing insight into internal experiences and skills to manage thoughts and emotions. Insight meditation is the main focus of therapy practiced in two short sessions daily. As we progress along the subsequent stages, attention is increasingly externalized toward others, and mindfulness skills are invested into cultivating a more fulfilling way of relating to the world. The programme generally requires about ten sessions, but the pace can be slowed when needed, and the programme can be flexibly extended to further sessions as long as necessary. Sessions are best held weekly or fortnightly for optimum progress.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences. Repeated studies show that by using EMDR therapy people can experience the benefits of psychotherapy that once took years to make a difference. It is widely assumed that severe emotional pain requires a long time to heal. EMDR therapy shows that the mind can in fact heal from psychological trauma much as the body recovers from physical trauma. When you cut your hand, your body works to close the wound. If a foreign object or repeated injury irritates the wound, it festers and causes pain. Once the block is removed, healing resumes. EMDR therapy demonstrates that a similar sequence of events occurs with mental processes. The brain’s information processing system naturally moves toward mental health. If the system is blocked or imbalanced by the impact of a disturbing event, the emotional wound festers and can cause intense suffering. Once the block is removed, healing resumes. Using the detailed protocols and procedures learned in EMDR therapy training sessions, clinicians help clients activate their natural healing processes.
Trauma, anxiety and depression can be incredibly debilitating. Also thinking to have success and happiness in our lives can be equally confronting, overwhelming and seemingly unachievable.
We are wired for resilience and can achieve incredibly rich and satisfying lives.
At times we need help with our emotions, and issues.
